Let's explore Flutter for industrial use cases!

Flutter, the open-source development framework maintained by Google, has been making waves in the mobile and web app development world with its fast-paced development and beautiful, native-looking user interfaces. However, as the framework continues to evolve, more and more developers are beginning to ask: can Flutter be used for industrial applications beyond just mobile and web?

Right now, it's not clear to what extent Flutter can serve use cases such as embedded devices, cross-platform desktop applications, workstations, and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs); which is why we at KDAB have set up this website - to explore and document the advantages, possibilities, limitations, and challenges of using Flutter in an industrial setting.

KDAB is a leading software consultancy specializing in GUI software development. As part of our ongoing research and development efforts, we've been exploring using Flutter for industrial applications. Our goal with this website is to collect examples and showcase real-world industrial applications that have been built with Flutter.

We aim to provide an accurate representation of what's currently possible with the framework, including any challenges that may arise. Whether you're a developer, engineer, or product manager, looking to build a new industrial application, we hope our findings and insights will help guide your decision-making process.

This website is open to contributions from any developers who have experience using Flutter in industrial settings. If you have a project or experience you would like to share, please get in touch with us! We believe that by working together, we can build a comprehensive resource for the Flutter community.

So, join us on this journey as we dive into the world of Flutter for industrial use cases. Let's see what kind of impact Flutter can have in the industrial world.

P.S. If you're starting out with Flutter on embedded hardware, we highly recommend you look at flutter-pi. Its author is working for KDAB and also contributes to this website.

Hello, Actually I am an industrial automation guy and I was thinking of using flutter in industrial applications, specifically for visualization applications instead of old-fashioned solutions provided by HW suppliers (Siemens, R-A, Schneider) which is very limited and expensive and also instead of software based solutions like lab-view which have limited future. While I was searching you guys came out. I would like to participate at your studies. I am just beginning the journey and I will rebuild some old projects using flutter and if its reliable enough I can apply it on the factory floor. I would like to share with you my progress and help you any way you prefer. Best regards, John

Hey John, thanks for your message. It sounds like you found the right place :) To start a conversation with other developers you might want to join our discord server https://discord.com/invite/CcMKx9BB7H or follow one of the social media channels. We are also in the process of planning an online meetup around industrial use cases for Flutter. As soon as we have more details, we will announce it.

Hello, I see flutter has a great potential for industrial applications. Definitely one topic of interest is functional safety. Qt framework has been ported to rtos like qnx and as I read it is important to get it certified for use cases like car instrument clusters and medical devices. Industrial flutter should follow this line IMO. I would like to participate with the community. Best regards, Ronal.
